Editorial: Juicy J Sued For Allegedly Stealing Video Footage For 'Bandz A Make Her Dance'

2012 was a money-making year for Juicy J.

The rapper released his unforgettable single, “Bandz A Make Her Dance” inspiring parodies, memes and twerk-off sessions. The hit sold 1,000,000 copies and became certified platinum by the RIAA. Unfortunately, two years after the song’s success Juicy J and Columbia Records are being sued by Creative Dream Productions and Mahad Dar. Their lawsuit states the company worked with Juicy J to create a video for “Bandz A Make Her Dance” featuring Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz alongside Juicy J. Once the details were in order, the company began to research locations where the video shoot can be held and they provided trailers, amenities, and insurance coverage.

The Jasmine Brand says Lil Wayne’s publicists told the company he would not be able to make the shoot. The company took that information as confirmation to cancel. One hour later, Wayne’s publicists called and said the Cash Money rapper would be in attendance. Creative Dream Productions says they lost the venue because they believed the shoot was canceled.

Ultimately, the “Bandz A Make Her Dance” shoot took place on August 26, 2012. Mahad Dar was the principal photographer for the video and originally the sole owner of the video footage. But he says he would own the rights until he and Juicy J came to a financial agreement and any copyrights could be handed over to the rapper. Dar states that deal was non-existent and Columbia Records released the video without his permission, so this lawsuit boild down to copyright infringement allegations against Juicy J and Columbia Records. Creative Dream Production demands that Juicy J stop selling his song. The company is also requesting all the profits made from the song and video.
