Editorial: Floyd Mayweather Jr. Responds To Roasts From The Breakfast Club

As we reported, Power 105 “Breakfast Club” host Charlamange Tha God gleefully made known Floyd Mayweather’s lack of reading skills.

Charlamange played a humiliating recording on the air Friday morning of the boxer struggling with a few simple sentences while recording a “drop” for the radio station.

Not that it matters, but the other “Breakfast Club” hosts, Angela Yee and DJ Envy, were reluctant to go in on the wealthy boxing champion.

“Shut the hell up! I don’t give a damn!” said Charlamagne, ignoring their concern.

Afterwards, Twitter quickly exploded in Mayweather mockery.

“I bet Floyd hates Alphabet Soup,” one wise guy tweeted.

The exposure of the audio was prompted by rapper 50 Cent who dogged Mayweather on Thursday via Instagram. Lampooning the viral ALS challenge, Fiddy said “F– the bucket of ice!” He’ll donate $750,000 to a charity of Mayweather’s choice if the reading challenged boxer could read just one page of “Harry Potter.”

50 Cent then circled back and announced that Jimmy Kimmel pledged to broadcast Mayweather reading out loud on his talk show, and that the challenge would be easier than originally planned.

“We don’t want to put pressure on you. We know you can’t pronounce those words in that ‘Harry Potter’ book, so we’re going to let you read ‘Cat in the Hat,'” he said.

Mayweather grew up in Grand Rapids, Mich. His mother was on drugs and his father served time for drugs. He has said he dropped out of high school to pursue boxing.

“I knew that I was going to have to try to take care of my mom and I made the decision that school wasn’t that important at the time and I was going to have to box to earn a living,” Mayweather told the Daily News in 2007.

Interestingly Mayweather who normally bites back at his haters via Twitter, hasn’t had a lot to say. But that changed early Saturday Morning when went for a knockout punch with this message:

Normally a profilic tweeter, Mayweather had been noticeably silent since the trash talk started, but he went for a knockout with a Twitter post early Saturday morning.

“Read this $72,276,000.00. God bless,” he tweeted along with a picture of two checks made out to Mayweather Promotions, LLC — each with eight figures.
