My Top 5 D-Block Joints

Editorial: My Top 5 D-Block Joints

Continuing my editorial series on rap groups (you can give my past editorial “5 Rap Groups That Should’ve Made It” a read here on VannDigital.com), I’d like to focus more on one of my favorite rap groups of all-time, D-Block (not just The LOX). Over the years, D-Block has grown from just The LOX (The Warlocks as they were then called) to larger crew (and record label) of artists, producers, & DJs. With everything they’ve dropped over the years, here’s my top 5 tracks from the collective.

  • Trav (of Team Arliss) featuring Styles P – Real Dirty (2001): Lesser known D-Block member Trav of even lesser known D-Block group Team Arliss dropped this gem back in 2001 when mixtapes were an outlet for artists to get major label recognition as well as an outlet to hear music you couldn’t hear nowhere else. Trav’s verse with an assist from labelmate Styles P helped make “Real Dirty” 1 of the most popular jawns that didn’t require marketing & promotion from major labels.

  • Jadakiss – Kiss Of Death (1999): Back in 1999, Jadakiss dropped this body of work via the popular compilation by the Ruff Ryders label ‘Ryde Or Die, Vol. 1’ (the best entry in the ‘Ryde Or Die’ series in my opinion) which happened to be a raw display of his talent as a solo artist. Jada would use this track as a springboard to build a resume on his own which would later include 3 albums, 6 mixtapes, & countless singles.

  • Sheek Louch featuring Jadakiss – Ten Hut (2003): I’m off & on about Sheek Louch as a solo artist but he helps bring tracks by The LOX together when he is with them. But Louch shows how hard he can go on his 2003 track “Ten Hut” & featured vocals from Jadakiss didn’t hurt either. Like Jadakiss, Sheek has built an impressive resume on his own that includes 7 albums & countless singles.

  • Styles P featuring M.O.P. – Y’all Don’t Wanna Fuck [2002]: Off his 2002 debut solo album ‘A Gangster and a Gentleman’, Styles P came across with this M.O.P.-assisted jawn which let people know you were coming when you bumped this up in your ride. Styles P would keep this type of hardcore rhyming consistent on almost every solo project he dropped after this & that ain’t exactly a bad thing.

  • D-Block (Styles P, Sheek Louch, Bully) – So Much Trouble/From The Block (2009): In this 2-in-1 visual, “So Much Trouble” is a display of what we’ve come to expect from The LOX. But the best part about this video is that it gave Bully a chance to get his shit off in the “From The Block” part of it. Both songs were two of many off the D-Block compilation album ‘No Security” which displayed talent from the whole D-Block crew.

So those are my Top 5 tracks of all-time from the D-Block crew…What are your Top 5 D-Block jawns???
